R/C geek

It was bound to happen. I'm a car and airplane geek and a radio geek. Put the two together and you've got an Radio Controlled (R/C) model geek.

A lot of people like to build fancy, fast, or exotic models. My interests are a bit simpler; understand how the model works and improve my own driving skills (which need a LOT of help).

cox nitro plane My first model was a line-controlled Cox airplane with an .049 nitro engine in it. It looked like the inset picture. It was a strange pink or red color. It was quite heavy, made of plastic. I smashed it immediately.

Radio Gear

I use a Hitec Eclipse. It's your basic computer radio, except for a couple of features.
  1. it can shift-select, so you can use both positive shift PPM receivers (JR/Airtronics) and negative shift (Futaba/Hitec).
  2. It has the Spectra module to synthesize the TX frequency. No more TX crystals, yay!
