Yes, I know how bad these pics are. I'll replace them later as my
motivation increases.
This is an SKS, though not your normal $100 gun show Chinese knock off (the Chinese army has produced millions of low-grade variants of the SKS). This particular example is a 1954 Soviet proof-stamped weapon with laminated stock. It's not pretty by modern standards, but from a functional and historical point of view it's rather nice. Everyone who's shot this weapon with me fell in love with it. |
Ruger 10/22
carbine. Bought used from a pleasant fellow on news:dfw.forsale. A 25-rd mag came with it,
and I found an original 10-rd rotary on eBay. My father gave me one of these when I was in Jr High or High School, and I had it from then until about 1990 when I had to hock it to meet expenses as an undergrad. Ammo: I feed the 10/22 CCI Stingers. |
Your basic floating survival .22lr. :)
This Henry Repeating Arms AR-7 is shown here disassembled and stored in the stock. You can see one
assembled here.
The barrel is very lightweight, so I shoot slowly and let it cool between mags.
Ammo: I feed the Henry plain bulk .22lr hollowpoints because it jams on CCI Stingers. |
I've only shot at clay pigeons once, with
my father (we had a little Sears target thrower and a box of targets).
I really liked it, and vowed to pick up a utilitarian shotgun when
funds permitted.
I wanted a 20ga so my wife and daughter could both shoot it comfortably. I read the newsgroups and found many people recommended the Mossberg Model 500 as a functional, plain-jane pump. So I got one. I've taken the Defensive Shotgun course from the Southwest Defensive Shooting Institute, a not-for-profit organization. It was quite good. Expect to spend a little money: I had to add a sling to the shotgun for the course, plus the course's $100-or-so fee plus we ran through about $120 worth of ammo. The pump gets 5 rounds of Winchester #8 small game in the tube (to minimize wall penetration), and there's 3 shells of buckshot and 2 slugs in the bandolier in case the going gets weird. |
