Map software

First I had a Legend and I loaded it with the D-FW area maps from Garmin MetroGuide North America v4. This was quite useful when using the nRoute freeware package from Garmin.

Then my Dear Wife bought me Garmin Metroguide 7 for Christmas 2005. In mid-2006 I bought a Garmin Venture CX for myself and bought Metroguide v8s for it.

 free garmin-compatible maps Note that if you just want to mark routes/waypoints on a map and upload them to your GPSr, you could do the marking in Google Earth, export the .kml, and then use gpsbabel to convert to .gpx.
