Unix/Linux install and config - Day 4

Goals

In this session you will:
  • Install x86 on wintel box

gotchas

  • requires boot disc and (CDROM or NFS)
  • no support for ISA hardware in 2.8
  • not all hardware will work
  • you may need to know your NICs MAC address
  • you will need to have specifics on your monitor
  • you may have to know the geometry of your HD
  • scsi drives may need to be in a specific scsi id order
  • later versions of x86 are partially PNP aware
  • x86 is 32-bit
  • no logicals in extended partitions? limited to 4 primaries per drive?
  • installs happen much faster than upgrades
